There are many potential ways of making money online. This article explores some of them and gives some advice re. the possible pitfalls and ways to go about it without getting discouraged by wasting time and money on your enterprises.

Internet marketing

Internet marketing is perhaps the most common method of making money online in two ways. It is the most publicized and perhaps the most popular of online enterprises. It involves owning a website and generating traffic to it to buy a product there. There is a lot of technical information and jargon involved so the learning curve for this type of endeavor is quite steep. Essentially, it is an online business, similar to a physical retail outlet except it is in cyberspace. Perhaps it involves learning too many new skills and too much information to be of value to someone new to making money online.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is an interesting approach and is much easier to learn and implement. It often involves the sale of digital products, for example, from clickbank for a commission i.e. a percentage of the cost of the item. Blogs, website links and advertisements can be used to promote the products to facilitate sales.

This approach provides a good insight into some of the techniques involved in internet marketing in general and is often a good one for someone new to this area to begin with.

Data Entry

Some companies outsource their office/administrative work to individuals working from home. Data entry and typing assignments are examples of this and are often paid on completion of the work assignment undertaken. Workers in this area can work full-time or part-time but this type of internet work opportunity often involves more fixed hours and contracts than other online enterprises. It involves working for a company in a similar capacity to going to an office to work, albeit with considerably more flexibility.

Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is another potentially lucrative endeavor as a way of making money online. It involves publishing original articles or interesting content either for sale to website owners or as a vehicle to carry advertisements on related products.

It is worth pointing out that there are two main problems with learning how to make money online. These are 1.information overload and 2. aggressive advertising.

Because the internet is so vast(practically infinite really), there is a problem with getting too much information on too many products. Many people lose focus because of this and consequently become discouraged and lose interest in learning how to make money online.

Furthermore, the aggressive advertising and online scams also increase people’s confusion and frustration.

The other problem here is that people often spend money they can’t afford on products that they don’t have the skills or insight to use properly or perhaps these products are just not useful in the first place.

In conclusion, three pieces of advice are appropriate if you are interested in making money on the internet:

1.To save time, energy and money, begin by choosing an area you are interested in rather than surfing the internet for money-making opportunities in a general way. This type of focus will pay dividends in the long run.

2.Focus on learning more about the are you are interested in and develop the necessary skills to work productively therein.

3. When you have found a product or assignment, apply the “100 hour rule”; give it sufficient time and effort i.e. at least 100 hours to see if it is productive or lucrative for you before moving on to try something else or deciding to continue with what you are doing.

Happy surfing! Enjoy the journey and be prosperous!
