Metabolism is defined as the rate at which the human body consumes calories and energy. A low metabolic rate means this is done slowly whereas a high metabolism means this transfer of energy occurs quickly. Raising your metabolism has numerous advantages. Among them is the ability to lose weight by burning fat quickly in the context of a small amount of physical activity.

Many factors affect one’s metabolism. These factors. include how often you eat, levels of stress, the density of muscles, level of activity and stress. One’s metabolic rate slows down as one gets older and if one is not taking sufficient physical activity.

There are many easy ways to raise one’s metabolism. Details of some of them are as follows:

Take regular exercise

Even though metabolism naturally decreases with age, the amount of muscle tissue a person has is crucial in determining the ability to shed fat and burn calories. Getting enough exercise to build up lean muscle is essential to increase metabolism in this way.

Resistance exercise such as weight-training is the ideal way to do this a few times a week. Between these workout sessions, take more gentle exercise like walking.

Don’t forget to eat breakfast.

It is well known that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and having a good breakfast is of paramount importance in boosting your metabolism. If one waits until later in the day to eat, there is a corresponding slowing of the metabolic rate.

Avoid sugar in the diet

Sugar helps the body to store fat so it should be used sparingly in the diet.

Enjoy your curries and other spicy foods.

Eating hot foods that include peppers can help to boost your metabolism

Get plenty of sleep

Not getting enough sleep often corresponds with weight gain and it is a known fact that muscle regeneration occurs towards the end of a good night’s sleep.

Drink plenty of water.

Water is essential for hydrating the body and ridding it of toxins produced during fat-burning. Indeed, most bodily functions are dependent in one way or another on water consumption so be sure to drink between one and two litres per day to keep your body functioning optimally.

Eat little and often

Get used to consuming more frequent, smaller meals about three hours apart to boost metabolism rather than three large meals a day. It is a bad idea to miss meals as this reduces the metabolic rate. Eating at regular intervals instead of missing meals is also important. Energy foods such as beans, wholegrains, vegetables and fruit should also be incorporated into the diet.

Reduce stress

Whether stress is emotional or physical it is best avoided as it decreases the metabolism.

Furthermore, people are likely to respond to stress by over-eating.

Conclusion

Increasing and stabilizing one’s metabolic rate is possible to do and has an important impact on losing weight. Lifestyle changes such as eating healthily and taking exercise are necessary to increase one’s metabolic rate and reduce weight.
